Harveys
The Harveys area consists of around ten climbs on a 25 foot high cliff band visible from the Kingsway
directly behind the old Harveys restaurant. The Harveys closed sometime in the summer of 2007, which would explain the name
to those who weren't aware. Apres climbing burgers are now not so convenient.
Since the Harvey's closed, it's probably best to park in the enterprise lot beside it. If you drive into the back there's a bunch of gravel
that you can probably get away with parking in without getting towed, but no promises. Head into the woods,
skirting the fence to the right behind the enterprise lot and head up into the gulley. Bushwack and take the intermittent
trail towards the cliff band, somebody recently flagged most of the trail. There are bolts at the top of the cliff for setting up top ropes. The top of
the cliff can be accessed by an easy climb on the left, or walking around the right side of the cliff. There is one sport route, and a couple of the routes
can be led on trad.
The rock is interesting to climb on because of its completely unnatural friction, somehow caused by the plumes
of sulphur dioxide emitted by the smelter back in the day. At the end of a climbing day you'll feel as if you've
been rubbing your fingers on sand paper, but man are slopers ever solid.
