Bethel Lake
Bethel lake is found just off the Laurentian University campus, to get there, turn off Paris Street onto
Ramsey Lake Road. Drive past the first turn off to the campus at the lights, and take the next right, South
Bay Road. Park either in the first parking lot on the right,
or if you don't want to pay $3 for parking, park
across the street on the shoulder. Take the obvious path directly across the street from the parking lot and
walk until you come to the lake. The cliff will be visible across the lake, continue following a path around
the lake to access the cliff. There has been construction ongoing there since the fall ('07), and I'm not sure
what the approach will look like when it's all said and done.
The cliff consists of about 8-10 climbs ranging in height from ~8 - 15 meters and 5.6 - 5.11 in difficulty. There are bolts at the top of
every climb for top roping, and sport bolting is ongoing. For the climbs over the lake, you can either lower down or wade through the water.
For fun and excitement on a warm day try the traverse from one side of the water to the other, just make sure to have a pair of shoes you
don't mind getting wet. The cliff gets the afternoon sun, so it's good for early and late season colder weather climbing. During the
bug season it generally gets enough of a breeze to keep the bites away.
